Finished up a pair of these dudes, the previously mentioned tube big muff. Takeaways? I think they're very cool. They sound a lot less compressed than a transistor version. Kinda like a high gain amp with that characteristic muff tone control. Super fun.

I think if you bump the low E to .100 or .105 the problems resolve, altho it’s not quite as guitar-y to play. But some of the standard sets have a .085 low E which gets flappy very quickly.


Man its weird and confusing how they decided to do this. The Squier Bass VI comes stock with .024-.084 ...

I feel like older Hot Rod Deluxe amps are always on FB Marketplace for like $300 ish . I've considered getting two just to use as stereo tube power amps for Helix. I think Balls has used them as platforms for building custom amps. I'm pretty sure Dr. T. Balls has done this.
