That was the first thing I thought because my first exposure to Pharoah Sanders was the Coltrane record "Meditations". But yeah, he's not crap for sure.

A jazz teacher I had in high school told us that Pharoah Sanders could put so much air in his horn that he could take the mouthpiece out of his mouth and continue to finger notes.

I'll believe that when I see it.

Pharoah is not crap w/ a 6, his played a lot of crap, and I think generally Karma and Black Unity are overrated, but you can't deny his playing on his early solo records and esp (for me anyway) on Don Cherry's Where is Brooklyn? wherein Pharoah is at his shrieking/reed-splitting best
