Watched The Dark (2018) and it comes highly recommended, in which an undead girl/ghoul who haunts a forest befriends a victim of a pedophile. Heavy story about grief & trauma. The first 20 min or so I was completely dialed-in as it leaned into its horror aspects - staging, atmosphere, make-up...it got me! The psychological aspects are grave and depressing. Kind of like a Let the Right One In but instead of a dracula it's a ghoul. I loved it.

Watched Tusk for the first time, and for the first time Justin Long made me feel somethin'. It took turning his character into a walrus, but still. Michael Parks was incredible. Johnny Depp bugged me. The whole thing within the gf & haley joel osment's character running around was annoying. It was OK, I guess.

I've been using this short as my dopamine fix for the past few nights. Great use of audio, suspense, the staging is *chef's kiss*, and it successfully works for the jump scare. The audio over the credits is exceptionally chilling. It gets inside my head.

I liked how I think it was the sister of the main character literally broadcast what was happening in the first half of the movie.

The Norwegian Good Boy from 2022 is also a decent watch that could've been much scarier.

I also dug how you didn’t really see any of the humans’ faces until maybe the end. (Other than on the television.)

Honey Bunch is a wild and entertaining psychological trip through the lens of a 70's-styled thriller. Great production design, acting, and plot that keeps you guessing. Tasting notes: gothic, sci-fi, paranoia, and good-for-her.

Caught a screening of undertone. I've been waiting since last summer for this slow burn creepfest and wasn't disappointed. The most striking aspect of it is its sound design. In that regard It reminded me of Robbie Banfitch's The Outwaters in which sound is the central character. Great camera work in which deep focus highlights aural and visual senses. Creepy. Recommended!

The other day I reminded myself of an 80s horror anthology with Vincent Price starring in the wraparound called From a Whisper to a Scream. So great. My favorite chapter is "Lovecraft's Travelling Amusements" starting Rosalind Cash as a terrifying voodoo priestess in charge of a carnival freak show. Shit messed me up. Great 80s horror.

Na Hong-jin is remaking The Wailing for American audiences which partly has to be a troll towards xenophobic Americans and I'm curious to see how it plays out.

Going in blind so I'm not watching the trailer but the temptation is strong.

Thinking of catching a showing of Dolly this afternoon.

That's about it for this post.
