As a kid I used to wander around a forest preserve with my walkman listening to anthemic and fantasy metal thinking I was a warrior or viking or some shit. Cheesy isn't in my vocabulary unless we're talking about comfort food.

LOL yes. I grew up on a dairy farm in northern WI and I'd listen to early Rush and Queen II on a generic cassette walkman while wandering through the woods or doing chores.

And now I'm perusing various versions of "Crazy Horses" by The Osmonds because 1) it's awesome, and 2) the last Dictators lineup did a cover of it.

I like the first couple of Manowar records. They're fun!

When about 40 years younger, I would visit my cousins in Northern California, who were pretty much hippies. I once went on a walk around their property, which was a horse farm, found a nice spot with a view of the river that ran through it, and listened to The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway in its entirety on my first Walkman. At dinner, I related that experience, and one of my cousins said, "Try doing it without music."

At her 50th birthday about five years ago, I reminded her of that conversation, and she denied having said it.
"And the light, it burns your skin...in a language you don't understand."

fyi I've had big fun lip-synching and being expressive with Manowar songs in my bedroom over the past 48 hours. If only I had a loincloth and muscles...
