When I was a kid it was the Roy Clark method. Sure, it had that dorky chord-bar thing, but I know a lot of kids who learned guitar on that thing, and it didn't cost them or their parents a lot of money.
I'm not one to sneer at the delivery system for self-respect, no mater how cheesy the packaging is.
