Correct me if I'm wrong, please, but Swell Maps started early, pre-dating the "punk" movement, but didn't properly record anything till later on, toward the end of the Seventies.

wasn't this the band with epic soundtracks from crime and the city solution? if it was - not crap, because this guy rules on drums.

Re-experience it.
I've been toying with starting a SM-type band for a while, due to my musical limitations at present, and also the fact that they fucking rule.
I never got to see them play, but saw both Nikki and Epic do solo stuff, and in each you could see the spark that made the Swell Maps just...exhilirating isn't exactly the right word, but damned close. At their best, it's just sort of this rush of noisy jubilation, the pure, raw joy of making a racket with your instruments and alongside your best friend (I dunno if Epic and Nikki were actually really close as siblings, but it sounds that way.)
I've never been in a band like that, and I really want to.

Never heard them. I know Epic Soundtracks later became the drummer in Rowland S. Howard's post-Birthday Party band (These Immortal Souls...oy, bad name), but that's it.
