possibly my ALL-TIME favorite drum beat is U2 "Sunday Bloody Sunday"...
some more negected favorites: The Pop Group "(Amnesty Report II)"
Silver Apples "You and I"
Unwound's Sara Lund was amazing, i'll cite "No Tech!" and "December"
Radiohead "Idioteque," "Morning Bell," "There There"
The Birthday Party "The Friend Catcher"
James Brown "Give It Up or Turnit a Loose"
The Fall "Rowche Rumble"/Devo "Freedom of Choice" (pretty much the same beat...great as it is...)
...you know, there are a LOT of great drumbeats out there...

32Thin Lizzy "Bad Reputation"
-The best kickdrum sound I've heard.
Bobby Seger "Hollywood Nights"
Shipping News "Books on Trains"
-Probably one of may favorite beats to play on the drum set.
Unwound "New Energy"
U2 "With or Without You"
-Love those fills.
Shellac "Watch Song"
-Four distinct drum lines: each of which merit our praise.
Jay Farrar "Barstow"
-The song maintains dignity as the drummer throws in a fairly unpredictable, catchy, and kick-heavy beat.
I'm new here and like this forum. The spellcheck feature rulse.

Don't know his name...
Orestes Morfin. Awesome drummer. "Navajo Ace" is for my money the mightiest drumming on that album. He also did El Producto with Walt Mink, which hasn't really grabbed me, although the drumming is still awesome.
Joey Baron, on Masada's "Beeroth," particularly this one live version that's not been released, as far as I know.
Billy Ficca's high-hat, all over Marquee Moon. Particularly the title track and "Elevation."
Elvin Jones in "Afro Blue" from Coltrane's Live at Birdland.
Much of Damon Che's playing on What Burns....

35I play drums. have for a long time. so...
-Away from Voi Vod. the man has style. I know, I have stolen some of it.
Rey Washam - sure wish he'd get in a good band again. maybe he has, I dont know..
Dale Crover - nicest guy on earth, maybe the best drummer as well.
Erik Tunison from Die Kruezen - inhuman sounding on the first record.
Steve Shelton - from my home town. cool guy. drums in Confessor and Loincloth. holy shit...
everybody that was ever drumming in Black Flag because they were all good, with th exception of the last guy, Anthony "doo doo dat doo doo dat" Martinez.
George Hurley - of course.
Reed Mullin - also from around here (Raleigh). was the drummer in COC, who I wont make excuses for, but back when they were good (1985), he was awesome. kind of like if you took the guy from Iron Maiden and the guy from the Bad Brains and combined them. those days are long gone.
Chuck Biscuits - horribly misused and undocumented, amazing drummer just listen to those early DOA records.
Phil Calvert - I will never understand what the Birthday Party had against thier drummer. He played great, had some real style, and could swing. Maybe he wasn't doing enough drugs back then. uh..okay, that is it.

And I'll reiterate from the thread on your new book that "El Rocio" is a fine piece of drumming as well.

38I second all mentions of Shellac, Don Cab, Slint, Zeppelin, Tortoise(!), and SKWM, and add:
Assassins – Lightning Bolt
It’s Catching Up and The Graveyard Shift – Rob Wright (and NOMEANSNO in general)
Armed Response – Trans Am
the smell of hot – A Minor Forest
Fashion Bleeds - Archers of Loaf
Also, too much jazz to mention, me thinks.

39I feel like a dick for not thinking of the U2, Archers and Thin Lizzy songs named above. I can only contribute Grand Funk - (We're An) American Band.
