they're all ported cabs, though, right?
Yep. All ported.
The 610 was up against the wall. the 2 1-15s were up against the 6-10.
Tomorrow I'll set them both up along the wall and flip-flop.

remember to keep the eq the same, play, and then fuck with it. and see which sounds you like better. i'm sure with the amp and guitar you'll find sounds one makes and the other doesn't and some within either setup that you like. which is more appropriate to what you do and how you play and how it will sound with who you play and what they play?
six 10's and two 15's will do different things with the amp, and with the bass. make sure to play the same bass while testing.
if they both sound comparable, maybe take portability into account.
like you don't know all this already.
if you can decipher this gibberish, that is.

Yeah, I did all that stuff. I guess it comes down to what the band thinks and how it fits in w/ the rest of the band. I'm not unhappy with my setup, I'd just like to be more happy, and I'd like the east of two smaller cbinets instead of one big cabinet.
The thing is that I didn't like the tone of the 2 15s with the same EQ settings. But I didn't have enough time to play with it to find settings that blew me away.
Also, I think the 15s showed limitations of my preamp's low end capabilities which the 6-10, which it had more apparant lowend, somehow hid.

as long as your guitar is decent, the amp is decent and the cabs are decent a good sound should be able to be made.
if not, something's gone wrong with one of those.

you need audiophile quality cables too.
having never dealt with an 8x10 nor a 2x15 or even (2) 115, I recently read an interesting post somewhere where someone said an 810 is easier to carry than two 410s which I would also assume goes for two 115s...
especially up and down stairs.
any thoughts?

two 1x15's would be a world easier than an 8x10. they're usually pretty light and can be carried in one hand. or at least all the 1x15's i've dealt with.
the 8x10 would be easier than two 4x10's though. balls to a 4x10.
i sold two ampeg 4x10's after i sunn 2x15 fell into my lap.

i would strongly recommend a 4x10 on top of a 2x12. avatar makes a 2x12 that has the same body as a 4x10 but the two 12s are mounted diagonally. very very perfect!

I used to have the Ampeg 6x10, it was pretty cool, quite a lot of punch, but I was looking for more low end.
I sold it to a friend and I bought 2 1x15.
I was a afraid of loosing "punchiness". In fact, I found that the 2 15's were still very punchy and with way more low end!!!!
A few months later I bought the SVT-VR reissue and I think I reached heaven the day i plugged it to the 2 15's!!!!
The 2 cabs have no tweeter, they're very basic, which means I have set up the amp's eq to have some high end, which is ok.
But I'd like to try different cabs one day....
