Those films make a point of targeting no one in particular, therefore they feel safe and stupid, rather than poignant and clever as good satire should be, IMHO.
I liked all of those enough. Triangle the most, then Saltburn, then Parasite. The Menu was fucking dumb, though.
Same. I only wish Woody Harrelson could have hung in there a bit longer.

So much of the music related stuff makes me think it's as much to do with music journalism as the actual stuff, the 'raters' are more of the problem than the 'rated'. MBV is canonized. That almost makes it less fun than when they were obscure. Or Radiohead- imagine uncovering their catalog 30 years from now as a teenager. That's going to hit the spot for someone who's never heard of Pitchfork and knows Rolling Stone as a historical society.

I always think of Arcade Fire when this topic comes up. This goes beyond just the rock writers, I think maybe they had a really good PR team that was selling me something that sounded like it'd be amazing, curious, and unique. Man, those lauded albums sounded so MOR when I finally heard them. At least whatever other indie sensations that were hyped in their era had something peculiar about them: Modest Mouse, Dirty Projectors, tuneYards..... probably 10 other fairly popular, heavily hyped acts.. Some of them were actually pretty dang good, hype be damned.

A couple of my other favorite artists have been mentioned on this thread, but I have to go to bat for Bowie.

"Word on a Wing" has made me bawl my fucking eyes out more times than I care to admit. If you've ever been in despair, depressed, questioning what you're doing with your life, lost your religion.. listen to this song at full volume. There's no way I will ever call that man overrated, even if the Ziggy Stardust era-Bowie has worn a bit thin.
