As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

One of the best books to come out in a long time is Roger Penrose's "The Road to Reality: A Complete Guide To The Laws of The Universe." It came out last year and is absolutely incredible. It is a bit math heavy at times but anyone with a knowledge of basic calculus should be able to understand a majoirty of the principles. The book covers most everything. It might be a bit lacking in the more recent discoveries as it was published in 2005 but it is still worth it. As far as the subatomic work that is being done, your best bet is to pay attention to journals like Science and Nature. If you want the heavy stuff, Physical Review Letters, Physical Review A, and Physical Review C are borderline incomprehensible but completely up to date. They are THE journals for atomic and nuclear physics. All university libraries will have them. I understand about 4% of the material in every issue of Physical Review B (condensed matter and material physics) but sometimes it has pretty pictures and dazzling regression plots.

I always wanted to play music. In 1st grade I would fantasize about my class putting a singing group together. We all wore glittery jackets and shimmied in sync. Then I discovered M*A*S*H* and had a brief affair with becoming a neurosurgeon. After realizing that medicine isn't my bag, (which is weird because I now work in health care), it was back to the rocka-rolla.
