C'mon. Anybody else ever get totally obsessed with this guys stuff, goofy albums covers aside? I love the Impulse and ESP records he made in the late sixties/early seventies.

Such beautiful stuff. His playing was so damn free and difficult, yet his records always had a real pretty simplicity to them as well...

The Creator has a master plan indeed.

I remember getting funny looks when i bought a copy of "Black Unity" from Boarders when it was reissued on CD. The girl at the counter was either amused by a goofy looking white boy buying it, or the funny sombrero he's got on there.

I love Pharoah Saunders, but I disagree.

He's made his fair share of uninspiring, if not flat out terrible, music. Especially in the last decade. It all counts, you know.

And if you'd only heard his early work with Coltrane and thought "this guy is just a one-trick squealer" I could at least understand why you'd think that way.

But anyway-

I usually lurk on this forum but I have to disagree with Vockins.

I don't really know about Pharoah, I've heard a few things here and there,
and sort of liked it but Albert Ayler making more crap than not crap? Huh?

What's the crap Ayler? Ok, Love Cry and Healing force of the Universe have their
dodgy moments but Crap? No way.

Everything else is absolutely very not crap, even New Grass.

"The First Recordings Vol.1 and 2"
"My Name Is Albert Ayler"
"The Last Album"
"NY Eye & Ear Control"
"Spirits"
"Music Is The Healing Force of The Universe"
"Love Cry"

CRAP.
