Players cheat all the time. LaRussa didn't make a big deal out of it b/c he's had plenty of guys who benefit from that kind of thing (Julian Tavares comes to mind).

I think Rogers made it obvious so he'd get 'caught,' then he'd wipe off the dirty part to look like he'd cleaned himself up.

Only you can't just wipe off pine tar--his hand would still be sticky, and he'd retain the advantage of having pine tar on his hand while looking like he'd complied.

I agree re probably pine tar, but do you really think he wanted to get caught? Doesn't he risk getting booted from the game and possibly the rest of the series? I understand that if everyone does it, even though its illegal (i.e. sodomy laws), it means its less likely you get tossed. But still.

Without the shitstain on his hand, maybe the Yanks pound him in Game 3 (like they usually do) and keep the series going until the bats heat up and back to New York. Kenny Rogers is not a 23 consecutive scoreless innings kind of guy. He is a cheating hack fuxxor. I can't believe they didn't inspect his hand. It's as bad or worse than Sosa's corked bat IMO.
