FM TM: Looks like Cafe Oto has some great stuff on around that time: Keiji Haino, MIKE (if your kid is into hiphop, saw him here recently and was a very ebullient show), Evan Parker at 80, The Necks, James Blood Ulmer in late-April, etc.

Re: City: London
44FMs Speedie and TM, don’t do this! Brick Lane’s restaurants are universally terrible. Very nearby is the Lahore Kebab House which is way better and cheap as heck. Or, if you fancy something a little less basic, Tayyabs on Fieldgate st is an institution

47If you’ve got time and love Turkish food the area around Green Lanes is fantastic. It’s not that far from central London.

This is a little old so check the restaurants first.
My favourite.

48Jay Foreman (and Map Men) has great videos about London and it's infrastructure:
Only been there once, it was not crap.

Re: City: London
49I've been a resident for 35 years now (albeit out in suburbia for the last 10). For sure, it has many of the same problems as other large cities do (size, expense, over-crowded / under-funded hospitals and transport networks, crime etc) - but I still can't think of anywhere else in the UK where I'd rather live.
Practically every interest is catered for here - loads of good venues, cinemas, pubs and restaurants. If the long commute into St.Pancras sometimes tired me out there are plenty of green spaces such as Putney Heath or Wimbledon Common where I can go walking on my days off and temporarily forget that I'm living in a city for just long enough to decompress. North London is pretty well served in that respect too with Hampstead Heath, Clissold Park and all the others.
Also, we get summers. If we're lucky.

I hate music, it's got too many notes.
Re: City: London
50I lived in various addresses along Green Lanes in the 90s. I still go there to eat out on occasion too. Like you say the Turkish restaurants are ubiquitous and of good quality. It's become a tad more expensive to live around there than it was 25-30 years back though, to say the least.Gramsci wrote: Sat Feb 10, 2024 11:56 am If you’ve got time and love Turkish food the area around Green Lanes is fantastic.
