I wanna build a QRD for my studio but there's one question I don't find an answer in books / internet:
What's the height of the QRD? Its depth and width depend on the bandwidth you want to achieve. But what about the height? Can I build it as high as I want?

The M80 has a really nice creamy distorted sound. Though it doesn't get distorted as easy as the M40. But it had more low end as I tested both of them at the local guitar shop. But it's not easy to get tubes for the M80... Has really special ones. Maybe someone knows where to buy them at a fair ...

I would definately go with a Tascam or Fostex digital 8-track. Personally I have the Tascam dp01. It's got no FX but two XLR-Inputs with phantom power, so you don't need anything else for a quick recording and even can use a condenser mic without a problem.
