Well, I know MoB puts shields in front of the drums; I assume
that's so Roger Miller doesn't go completely deaf.

But, I've never seen a guitar amp set up this way.
Seems like it would put a lot of pressure on the mic.

we just got our room dampened significally. i can now hear EVERYTHING that goes on in those awful chun chun haircut beatdown bands. bad times.

i am absolutely baffled by this thread. when i am soundchecking, i try to match the gains on every channel so they all peak around 0dB, then make my adjustments with the faders (i thought that was how EVERYONE did it!), giving me a nice balanced mix.

does the desk you are using have PFL meters ...

This is not a problem if you are using a external audio box like a firepod.

The output on computers and DIing can be a little much for some PA systems. I was at a show a couple of years back where Merzbow used two laptops from thier outputs and set the PA speakers on fire with the signal ...

i could, of course, tell them to shut up and buy some records like proper DJs?

i cant see how that setup could possibly be a problem. i'm a live sound engineer, and when a band comes to me with a weird setup, i may advise a better way to do it if one exists, but ultimately its not my place to tell a band what they can/cant do (except turning their backline up too loud!)
