I'm not sure what the theory behind discharging the caps is myself, I'm not really that technical.

I've heard conflicting views on the right way to turn off a tube amp.

Straight to "off" or "standby" then "off"?

Apparently straight to off is better because you discharge the caps.
Others say standby first increases tube life.

Anyone got a definitive answer on this?

I recently tried out a few of the lower end Warfdales (can't remember the model - sorry). Apparently on paper, they're flatter than most at that price, but I thought the top end on them was really harsh. I decided that if I'm going to be sat in front of them for long periods, they'd be no good to me ...
