It is an active pickup I believe because it does require a 9 volt. It was installed in the guitar when I bought it. It sits where the strap button goes at the bottom of the guitar. I would like to get something that would go where the existing pickup sits, and definately will not cut on this guitar ...

I believe it is cedar, but it may be pine. I'm not quite sure at this point. I have plenty, and it is all in good condition.
