I think the New Radicals guy said he was just joking with the whole musicians diss lines towards the end, he didn't mean any ill will towards them.

I like that song too. Years ago during a book sale I got that album at my library for a buck. It's actually pretty good.

I saw Collective Soul like, maybe 20 years ago? They were playing our town and I liked the radio hits at the time, so I thought I'd check it out. I thought they were surprisingly good live.
