Are you using a compressor when you record vocals? Heavy compression can make breathing-in noises sounds really loud.

But yeah, listen to the vocals with the other stuff, too. A lot of noises disappear in the mix.

When performing vocals are singers expected not to make undesired sounds (e.g., breath and general gross mouth-related sounds)? I'm surprised I don't hear it much in music I listen to when I hear it all the time in my own recordings.
