Bümp.
Brewers keep pulling me back in: Garrett Mitchell's first homer to tie last night and then the Keston Hiura walk-off homer. Yelich heating up somewhat. One can dream...
Meanwhile, the Mariners have been playing really compelling, fun
baseball and have signed J-Rod effectively forever. American League wildcard race and series promise to be fun.
I went back to the States for the first time in three years and got to see a Mariners game with my partner and son. The Mariners won a fairly boring afternoon game but I had a good time; unfortunately the little dude convinced himself that he is an Angels fan and balled his eyes out all the way out of the park. He got over it and had a good time on the whole. He is way into
baseball and kind of scary good for five-and-a-half. I play with him as much as he wants when he is currently into it and let him be when he goes through uninterested phases, but he watched a fair amount as a toddler, mostly on the iPad as a strategy to keep him focused at the dinner table, and he kind of soaked up the basics. Little league is a thing on the periphery over here, so there will be opportunities to play if he wants. I took him to a t-ball meeting/practice here in spring, but he didn't want to practice without me or go through the warm-ups before getting a chance to play, he was very conflicted and melted down and I didn't force it, of course. One of those very taxing but proud daddy days of just hanging in with what happens and letting him develop at his own pace without added drama or pressure.
In any case,
baseball continues to be my daily go-to anti-existential-dread medicine.
What's good in your
baseball world?
