My favorite part is seeing the 1st base coach waving Baez into 1st base.
Amazing!

That was some smooth brain defense
It's also hilarious how Baez calls Contreras safe and seems to forget for a moment that he is a live runner and the game is still happening. He's just standing there next to the catcher who is holding the ball.

Everything is wrong.

Move your foot one foot onto first base. Inning over.

Realize you're playing a) baseball and b) defense and c) first base (where your only job is to farm FORCE OUTS).S top running before you THROW THE BALL TO THE CATCHER and RUN BACK TO FIRST BASE where you should be anyway and step on it before Baez. Inning also over.

If you're playing 2nd base...realize your 1B is an idiot and cover first like you're supposed to do. Receive throw from catcher, who should never have had the ball, but whatever. Inning over...run doesn't count.

Baez's brain fart of standing there and signaling the runner safe, yes, it is also incredible and dumb.

It's the dumbest thing I've ever seen in a game with actual pitching.

Byron Buxton is coming back in a couple weeks, and the Twins are going to need to figure out what to do in the outfield. I'm beginning to wonder if Kepler has more value to as a commodity RN. I'd still keep Sano, he's just warming up (finally).

Meanwhile, Astudillo is a fucking clown prince, and nobody knows how to handle him, and I love it.

Bümp.

Brewers keep pulling me back in: Garrett Mitchell's first homer to tie last night and then the Keston Hiura walk-off homer. Yelich heating up somewhat. One can dream...

Meanwhile, the Mariners have been playing really compelling, fun baseball and have signed J-Rod effectively forever. American League wildcard race and series promise to be fun.

I went back to the States for the first time in three years and got to see a Mariners game with my partner and son. The Mariners won a fairly boring afternoon game but I had a good time; unfortunately the little dude convinced himself that he is an Angels fan and balled his eyes out all the way out of the park. He got over it and had a good time on the whole. He is way into baseball and kind of scary good for five-and-a-half. I play with him as much as he wants when he is currently into it and let him be when he goes through uninterested phases, but he watched a fair amount as a toddler, mostly on the iPad as a strategy to keep him focused at the dinner table, and he kind of soaked up the basics. Little league is a thing on the periphery over here, so there will be opportunities to play if he wants. I took him to a t-ball meeting/practice here in spring, but he didn't want to practice without me or go through the warm-ups before getting a chance to play, he was very conflicted and melted down and I didn't force it, of course. One of those very taxing but proud daddy days of just hanging in with what happens and letting him develop at his own pace without added drama or pressure.

In any case, baseball continues to be my daily go-to anti-existential-dread medicine.

What's good in your baseball world?

Positive developments: Minor-leaguers to potentially become members of the MLBPA

Not to much good to report from a White Sox fan.

Seeing them underperform in a spotty AL Central, and go from a very fun team to watch to whatever this is, has been big time depressing. Just terrible coaching, conditioning staff, baffling decisions, all round bad stuff. If in April you would have told me starting Sept this team would be 5 games back I would have thought you were totally nuts.

I guess Cease playing close to Cy Young level is nice.
