Ooh! Me too!

The C to D chord change that comes at the end of the intro bit is instant rock-god material!

Posting on a messageboard of a fairly obscure studio, admitting how many hours you've spent learning other people's songs... can it GET much more geeky?

That being said, I'm a drummer, but over the past few years I've pretty much taught myself guitar by learning Guided By Voices songs. I know 10-20 songs maybe, I've never counted. It's fun to play "Keep Up With GBV" by getting hammered and trying to play along to their records, but I drink like a human, not a professional, so I have to do it for the spirit of the thing and accept that I'll sound lousy.

What else? Of course there's the mandatory Shellac riffs, but they just don't sound right on a typical guitar rig. I can butcher Jay Ryan's main melody part to "what is your landmass?" on bass. Um, yeah. Go nerds.

I play it in a variety of different styles; bhangra, bluegrass, blues, breakbeat, bossanova and er, brilliantly (which IS a style).

What's funny is that I often think I can play songs easily, but it turns out to be rather difficult. And the opposite can be true. For example, I was entirely sure I could play "The Winner Takes It All" by Abba on guitar, but it turns out to have some weird chords in it, and being primarily a bassist cuts down on my chord-knowing skill.

However, "Billiard Player Song" and "Carry On Wayward Son" I played completely accidentally the first time.
Hey. My name's Josh.

The self-titled Clutch record.

After playing the drums to it for months, I started learning the bass lines. After that, guitar.

I can play any part of that album on any instrument. Probably the vocals as well.
