i wear my guitar at nearly nosebleed levels so i couldnt pull it off without bending the elbow and shoving guitar picks up my nose.

I don't get it - usually you play guitar with up or down strokes, right? So how do you attack strings effectively by swooping past them? Why don't people just pound on the guitar with their fists? Isn't that about the same? And doesn't it strike anyone as just a move, not signifying anything more than "hey, I learned this move"?
