I just saw a post on my lady's journal (she's in Gainesville) that there's talk in her town of finding shelter, maybe evacuating if the storm doesn't let up after landfall, etc. Guh. I'm a wee bit concerned, yeah.

This morning on the teeevee they were saying that at that moment, it was the most powerful hurricane in recorded history, and that it was about to pass by the Yucatan and Cuba on its way to the west coast of Florida. They also said it has a much smaller eye than the two biggies this season, so that's good... but the tropical-storm-force winds spanned something like a couple hundred miles, so that's not so good.

Best wishes to everybody in Florida. If you don't move somewhere else, away from the coast, as soon as you can, I think you are a crazy person! Not safe!

But good in the sense that the highest-speed winds are concentrated in a smaller area, as opposed to a storm like Katrina with high speed winds and a huge eye, translating to high winds over a huge area rather than a small one. No? That's what the weather fellow said anyway. I don't really know shit about hurricanes except they are bad news for people that live near the southeast US Atlantic coast..

My mother is currently in the process of driving my grandma back home from Louisville, KY... to right about where it's predicted to hit.

and other family lives there too. So yeah.

I think the high-pitched news stream of the last several days, coupled with all the nasty shit that's been hitting the fan non-stop lately = can only take each new horrible thing as it comes, rather than dwell on it before it hits.
