Breakfast is barely breakfast without potatoes:

A local favorite around here (I think it originated in Ann Arbor, about an hour east), is "Hippie Hash" - Hash browns, mixed with broccoli, onions, tomatoes and feta. Corned beef, gyro meat, or tempeh optional. Get it with eggs and toast - a real breakfast!
Why do you make it so scary to post here.

I'm disappointed you've let the thread go this far without mentioning soda bread and potato bread, the two products that, together with the absence of beans, make the Ulster Fry (or "Occupied Six Counties Fry" depending on one's views) a clear edge over the English aberration.

Sorry, Fiery Jack. If you had been in the EA chatroom the other day, I was explaining to Ironyengine what farls were. I love 'em.

I had an Ulster Fry in Belfast once, that involved five different types of bread.

Potato farls are a type of fried bread served with Irish breakfast.

Title:

Irish Fried Potato Farls

Ingredients:

1¼ lb of potatoes (4 potatoes)
2 teaspoons of melted butter
1 cup of flour
Half teaspoon of salt
4 teaspoons of vegetable oil

Detailed procedure:

Peel and halve the potatoes and boil in water for approximately 20 minutes, until soft.
Drain, then add the butter and mash thoroughly.
Add the flour and salt and mix.
Divide the mixture in half and put the first half on a lightly floured surface.
Knead until flat - approx ¼ inch thick.
Divide into 4.
Repeat the process for the other half of the mixture.
Fry/Griddle using the oil for approx 2 minutes or until crispy brown on each side.
Serve warm.

Makes 8 farls

Very nice with eggs.
