70s fenders are going up to ridiculous prices.
i have a '76 strat, paid about £450 for it a few years ago - i love it (probably more for sentimental value than anything else) but no way is it worth any more than that.
i was going to say that i wouldn't think an american strat is built with <$30 of materials, but thinking about it.. fender must buy huge amounts of timber, pickup coil wire, plastic, etc. and get it pretty cheap. i think we're looking at $100 max of materials, including the case... and, seeing as the guitars are all mass produced on machines, the only labour involved is in the assembly (which i have to say is much better on USA models, though).
jcm800s are worth pretty silly amounts of money now. i managed to double my money on one after having owned it for about 6 months. it was a lovely amp though.
i reckon that if robust solid state amps ARE making a comeback, the roland jc-120 might go up a bit in price. that amp is solid.
