I don't claim to be an expert, but I think Nick Drake was straight.

I think it is agreed that he was possibly gay and confused/depressed about it, possibly helping make the decision of taking his own life. I think this is a common conclusion stemming from what friends/acquaintances have said or deducted.

His biographer claims he wasn't gay , at least according to one of these ultra-reliable "customer reviews."

His life seems to have that sad, dramatic arc of a person who was tortured by some kind of repression, for sure.

my $.02: it's usually pretty lame to speculate about a given artist/historical figure's sexuality. like, "Kierkergaard rebuffed REgine Olsen's advances because he was secretly gay, not because he was a deeply depressed intellectual/monomaniac who honestly believed marriage and the emotions associated with love would corrupt his gift -- which at the time had revealed itself after years of nervous prostration, doubt, and social rejection."

some people are just naturally uncomfortable with life and almost masochistically avoidant and withdrawn because of this. as useful as psychology is sometimes, i think it's unfortunate that sexual repression is considered the root of so much personal unhappiness and intrapersonal turmoil.

I agree.

But if Nick Drake was gay, then the line "The pink moon is on its way" makes a lot more sense.
