Right-oh - well, basically I really want to know what equipment was used to get the bass sound on 'Dragonaut' by Sleep off of Holy Mountain.
I really like it, and want to at least get an approximation of it. If anyone has specifics on what was used then that would be great. In the video that on some site or other, he appears to be using Orange & Matamp heads, a very big cab and Rickenbacker 4001 bass. However this is not to say this has anything to do with what he recorded with.
There's clearly an effect on the bass for virtually the whole song, that sounds like a Envelope Filter, wah wah or maybe EHX Bass Synth.
Anyone know about how this sound was achieved?

3I saw Om play in NYC this past weekend. Cisneros was using borrowed amps, but it appeared to be the same bass you're talking about. So that's probably the same.
Their record label's e-mail is xtummie@earthlink.net. Why not ask them?

4I know that Billy Anderson was featured in a TapeOp a while back...I can't remember what issue it was though (it could have been years ago). And if my memory serves me correct, he talked quite a bit about working with Sleep. You might want to try and find that article...might mention something in there about it.
Oh, and fuck Mars Volta.

6Ok, well thanks for those pointers, I'll see what I can dig up.
I got a Bass Balls and mine certainly don't sound like that, I know that much!
Cheers, men.
