On August 22nd, Piece (1927 W. North ave.) will be holding a Live Band Karaoke Championship, which is a benefit for Children's Memorial Hospital. Singers will pay $10 to perform in front of celebrity judges Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick, and famed producer Steve Albini who, along with Bob Weston, is a member of one of Chicago's long-time favorites, Shellac. The winner wins the distinct honor as Champion, a year of Piece pizza and, he/she gets to perform a popular Cheap Trick song with Rick, Steve and Bob.

A $5 cover comes with a pint of Piece beer..... and 15% of all sales from the entire day goes to Children's Memorial Hospital. In addition, Rick's guitar manufacturer, Hamer Guitars, has donated a guitar to auction off. The value of it with case is $2600. The bidding will start at $500 and will take place at halftime of the competition.

The Hootenaners will be performing for the competition. The competition will start at 8:00 but singers need to get there at least one hour ahead to sign up.

Come out and have some fun while contributing to a very good cause!

As long is it's the theme from "That 70's Show", I am so there!

Excellent! I was hoping it would be them. I am so there.

What's Rick's position on heckling, the throwing of petty change, ice cubes, and such?

We'll see!

Also, thanks for the heads up.

I had a sneaking suspicion that someone would ask me that question. No significance to the colors. I just wanted it to look purty and get everyone's attention.

And, for any skeptics out there...Live Band Karaoke does not disappoint. It's a blast. Just cheesy enough to be good fun but impressive enough to rock your ass off. Come just to see the best female guitarist in this city and quite possibly anywhere in a 500 mile radius. (Of course, I'm a little biased since the band members are my best friends and the band members of my original band).
