it's a damn shame that the MC5: A True Testimonial doc will likely never see commercial release because it's stupendous. I was lucky enough to see it in Frisco before Wayne Kramer changed his mind and blocked it. The live footage is truly incredible.

None of their albums is great start-to-finish, but they were an undeniably great band. "Kick Out the Jams," "Rama Lama Fa Fa Fa," "Looking at You," "The Human Being Lawn Mower," "American Ruse," "Baby Won't Ya," "Sister Anne," "Skunk (Sonically Speakin)"--these songs constitute a legacy of not crap. I even dig their one ballad, "Let Me Try."

there are some great clips up on you tube, I would have loved to seen this band live...

I got to see them a few years ago, and they played really well. They had two Kustom half stacks on stage, which I find cool for some reason. Anyway this was in kind of an area with a lot of Republicans, and so when Wayne Kramer said a few things against the Iraq war some people actually booed! They had this look of shock on their face like that's our president he's talking about! I thought it was amusing people would go see the house band for the white panthers and not expect some kind of anti-war statements..

I really liked them a lot--I'm more into pre-punk and punk more than post-punk. There was one song that really irritated the hell out of me, but other than that, they were money, man.

I have been a Wayne Kramer fan since I was in Jr. High. I always thought that Gang War was a great idea. Sadly, the material I have acquired has not lived up to my hopes.
