it's deer hunting season, and thanks giving is right around the corner, who's family members are bringing home some venison this fall?

deer are overpopulated, and keeping CWD in control is important. if you kill 'em, and it's healthy, you might as well eat it.

not crap.

my brother bagged three bow hunting earlier this fall, and had two made into hot sticks, and the other into steaks.

I'm pretty much the only male in my family that doesn't hunt, but I do get my share of venison every year, there's always plenty to go around. Delicious. I love venison steaks, fried up with butter and garlic salt. I also get a lot of ground venison from the fam, which isn't the best on its own as burgers (too gamey), but its great when incorporated with spices for things like spaghetti with meat sauce, burritos or chili. And its lean.

My mom also cans venison, so I get these jars full of gnarly-looking hunks of meat and juice. Open the jar, dump entire contents into skillet, add BBQ sauce, heat. In less than 10 minutes you've got venison sloppy joes. Sooooo good.

I need to start hunting myself, so I can be stocked with venison constantly.

NOT CRAP!
That dog won't hunt, monsignor.

They're yummy, which is about the only redeeming quality of deer. Other than as an entre, they're vermin. Destructive vermin. One afternoon in Feb. 2005 there were 18 of them in my back yard, and I don't have a big back yard (maybe an acre, tops). This year the herds haven't been quite as big (yet anyway).

Just this past Friday, at 2:00 in the afternoon no less, there was an 8 point and a 6 point buck walking around out there, not 40 feet from where I was in my workshop inside. You almost never see the bucks in my neighborhood, certainly not older ones in the middle of the day. Odd...
