Firefox has lost me as an unpaying customer

I have been using Firefox since back in the day when it was called firebird or flaming chicken or something.
Lately I have been getting severely pissed off with it's compatibility with various websites. I never used to have a problem. I loved the thing. Fast as a fast thing, tabbed browsing and various (usually unused) cool plugins.
For instance, Lately whenever i'm in the EA forums and click on a link to a you tube video the link just shows me the HTML code.
Also, when I want to make a new post or quote someone, I get sent back to the homepage. Very frustrating.
This is two problems among many. Usually involving audio or video streams from websites. It also seems to take forever to load pages lately. I have re-installed it to see if it makes a difference but it doesn't.
In spite of myself I tried the new Microsoft Explorer. I find myself using this more as it now has tabbed browsing and is a lot faster and less frustrating than Firefox at the moment. I do miss the instant spellcheck though.

Is anyone else having similar issues? I heard that zone alarm can mess around with pages in firefox but it does the same even when turned off.

I don't want to walk away from this browser as I have been loyal for a long time but it's pissing me off right now.

While I not exactly related, I wonder if anyone can help out with my issue here:

I can't get Hotmail, Myspace or anything with a blogspot prefix to load on my mozilla (or maybe just the computer). I will not use IE. Everything else works just fine. those three never ever ever finish loading. It became an issue when we got whole house internet and the landlord set up a new connection, but it's so specific, it doesn't make sense. I don't understand it. why would it be selective? Is it a firewall issue? I'm stumped.

other than that, I have no problems w/mozilla, just those three wonky pages.

I use Zone Alarm and I've found that it will sometimes cause youtube to only display the html code. Not all the time but sometimes.

Other than that it's ok.

My only misgiving with the XP firewall is that although it doesn't allow anything in, it doesn't tell you when things are using resources to get out. That's pretty important.

Why Zone Alarm doesn't have a simple toggle to shut it on and off is beyond me. It's a pretty lame firewall all in all. But it was free.

I've heard Sygate is good.

Also, I've found that a lot of myspace's dns addresses get fucked up on my machine. Not too sure why that is.

Hey Faiz,

This is a long shot, but either firefox or your firewall could be set to block any sites with the prefix "blogspot". I would check your allowed sites in both these places first. Beyond that, it would be hard to identify the problem without looking at your computer.

Also - Zone Alarm does suck terribly. I used it several years ago and it would block random installations, service, etc.

By the way, how does AVG work in comparison to Avast antivirus? I've been using Avast and like it fine, but I've read a lot of good things about AVG.
