Electric violins are like saffron in cooking. A little goes a long way.
Put in the right amount, and it's great. Overdo it and it's awful.
On the one hand, you've got your Dave Matthewses and such.
On the other, you have bands like NYC's Slow Six, who are just brilliant.
Maybe the fact that they have two violinists, and that they play real violins with pickups (not some Zeta plexiglass thing) saves them.
I'm telling you though, they are great.
We're playing with them again, this time in NYC, on 2/10, and I can't wait to see them. They have a drummer now and have really found their sound.
