ok so its time i brought a new microphone, ive been looking at :
akg c414xls
ev re20
i like mics that can do anything pretty much. but really im looking for something that can do vocals, guitar cabs and cymbals. It will be addition to:
Beta 91
Beta 98
SM 58
Groove Tube GT57
Rode NT1
Rode NT5 pair
Sennheiser E609
Audix D6, D4, D2, D1, I5, OM-5.
Ideas or recomendations welcome!
mic time....again
2I would reccomend e-baying a B-ULS over a B-XLS. The B-XLS I used wouldn't retain the polar pattern setting I chose after unplugging it, and it made loud pops when I cycled through the settings. Plus you can get a pair of used B-ULS mics for about the same price as 1 new B-XLS. They're great mics, and they are so good for so many applications.
mic time....again
3cool thanks for that, here in the u.k there arnt any for sale so i'll keep my eye out.
ive herd the beyer m88 is a poor mans re20, anyone back that up?

4The M88 and RE-20 do different things. In my mind, the M88 magic happens when you make creative use of the proximity effect for more "oomph". The RE-20 is made to have no (or very little) proximity effect.
you have a lot of similar mics in terms of pattern. Something like the 414 or one of the Audio Technica multi-pattern LDC's would likely serve you better in terms of flexibility than yet another fixed pattern dynamic.
Just my opinion...

5yeah i am pretty sold on the c414. my groove tube has different patterns but i always find myself using the cardioid, just like proximity effect.
C414 IT IS THEN!
just out of curiosity, whats the favoured mic, Microtech Gefell M71 or Neuman U87? ive been planning to slam one of these in my mic box soon along with a royer r121.
