He's been playing with some friends of a friend of mine over. Shitty trendy UK pop, a la Libertines etc.

I'm assuming it's just for fun...

Rysie's gonna get pissed that you called the Libs "Shitty trendy UK pop."

they're pretty good. futureworld is great, and red line is also quite fine. i really loved the first and second ones at the time, but later decided they weren't that great. which is funny, cause the first one is the one i pull out nowadays when i feel like listening to them. i went through a period where i felt like i needed all their stuff, so i bought a bunch of rarities. listened back a couple of years ago and found them superfluous.

so, to sum up: good band, seemingly a lot of substandard output. never saw them live, and haven't heard anything post-red line. i still rep the first album.

My band played with Trans Am as a supporting band in Croatia quite a time ago (I think it was their Futureworld tour), AND THEY WERE GREAT. Their Junos made the whole club tremble. They visited Croatia once more and that show was even better.

I really wish they'd write more songs with more of the rock rather than that of the dance. ragged agenda, play in the summer, bad cat those songs are awesome. I enjoy what they do, but some songs are overpowering with the synth. on the other hand future world is excellent example where that shits tight.

I often think of Trans Am in terms with a band like Joan of Arc. Both groups have some truly remarkable material but you do have to endure a lot of dross in order to find it. 'Liberation' and 'Joan of Arc, Dick Cheney, Mark Twain' were similar albums and I think both should be applauded, if only for the boldness of their concept. I read a very bad review for the new album 'Sex Change' but I'll still be interested in hearing it for myself before making any conclusions. Still, 'The Red Line' was a pretty great album whichever way you slice it.
