an old friend and I went there the day before Doug closed for Christmas and shared the Kangaroo and foie gras/duck. glad as I was to try the kangaroo (as I had never before eaten marsupial), I could not help but regret not ordering the foie gras/duck exclusively. Next time Doug serves it I'm ordering a dozen and freezing them for a rainy day.

Today:

Saussison Alsacienne: Bacon Sausage with Creme Fraiche, Caramelized Onions and Morbier Cheese.

Absolutely fabulous. Second-best sausage I've ever had there, right after the foie gras/duck.

I had no idea one could make a sausage out of bacon, but apparently Doug can. He told me that as long as something can go into the grinder, he can make a sausage out of it... so I'll be expecting some crazy sausages in the near future.

I got there at 3 pm. What time were you there JohnB?

I arrived around 1:00 but spent over half an hour deciding between the Uber Garlic, antelope, elk and bacon sausages.

I don't believe it's been mentioned yet here, but the Thuringer is excellent as well. I was a bit dismayed to hear Doug pronounce it "Thuringer" (as in thus) and not "Turinger" (like Thames), but that really was only a minor inconvenience.

When my girlfriend and I got into town on Friday afternoon, the first thing we did was make a beeline to Hot Doug's (our second visit in as many visits to Chicago this year). As we were walking up, a guy in a btfl Tom Stack shirt was walking out with another guy and a girl. I wondered if these were fellow EA forum nerds. If so, salut to you.

I had the Don Rickles with mustard and carmelized onions (again) and the Ribeye Steak sausage. Dear. God. These were two of the best things I've ever eaten, and I've eaten a lot of stuff!

Hot Doug's! So great!
