Can I just say that honestly, I'm bummed. I was really hoping that would be a guitar shop I'd want to go to.

i don't like the direction this thread has taken.

Why is it that just about every city has a weirdo that makes ugly, freakish guitars out of miscellaneous pieces of shit and tries to sell them for a lot of money?

I've seen several in town, the toilet-seat always seems to be a perpetual favourite.

I think Chinga Chavin had the first Toilet-Seat guitar that I'm aware of.

Statistics. Out of a large enough sample set, someone's self-filtering has to be low enough to make the dreaded toilet-seat guitar, or, worse, the cock-and-balls guitar. Inspired weirdness, however, is unfortunately more rare.

i'm a friend of a friend/acquaintance of fred's and he's always seemed like an ok guy in person. his guitars certainly have a gimmicky element but he does it more for himself, having been making them long before he opened this shop. he's also put a number of them in charity auctions. he's got a pile of old pickups that were salvaged from all over that he tries out in his guitars so don't blame him for not knowing what they are. no one does. (as an asside, i like being surprised by what a guitar will sound like. play it and decide for yourself if you like it.)

i don't know what provoked this back and forth. he's never been a prick to me. kinda disappointing.

Based on what he said about a) showing me the video, b) walking away with a woman, and c) beating off on the Bellari, I can say that only the Real Fred Mangan would know these things since he was the only one in the shop.
