Connecting Monitors

I have a pair of Genelec mons and Im running them off a Mackie Satellite pre-amp. There are two jack outs on the pre-amp and XLR ins on the mons. I want to slave one mon off the other so do I connect the two jack outs to the their respective mons and then run a lead from one mon to the other or do I need a lead that goes two jacks to one XLR?

Cheers.

Nah der active monitors! I just need to send a signal to them but there is a volume switch on both of them and I wanna be able to control the volume of both of them by using just one switch! I can do this by taking the out of one mon into the other but how do I send the signal from my pre-amp to my mons?

I think that if you plug your speakers in the back of the pod (there is a left right output) you should be able to control both speaker with the CTRL RM/PHONE 1 knob.... So what you have to do is get 2 trs to xlr (male) cables hook the left out to the left speaker and the right out to right speaker..... turn the volume switch of both speakers all the way up (unless you can feel a click at some point while turning it up(that should be there nominal gain)) now you should be able to control the volume from the pod CTRL RM/PHONE knob

if you don't have the manual download it here it's the best way to learn how your machine work

Yea I have it connected up like that but I thought I could slave one off the other instead of having to precisely match the levels of the two speakers. Is it not incredibly stupid to not have an on/off button?

Ok so I`ll use the CR out level to set the volume, but there is no "click" for untiy gain so how do I get the best gain structure? Should I have my speakers high and my CR out low, my speakers low and my CR out high or should I have them both around the middle?

Turn the speaker all the way up you'll be sure to have the same level on both side

haven't read the whole thread. but monitors connected with a preamp? I've never heard that. I would avoid running them through a preamp, cause it will color the sound abit. I suggest you to build a small box with ins and outs and one dual potentiometer, or preferably a stepped pot. I remember there's a thread about it, I think I took part in it as well.

It's more like taking the control room out of a soundcard to the monitor with that toy... not like taking the output of a preamp straight into the monitor ... I don't see the point doing that since you wouldn't be able to record your signal
