In my experience, the V-4B was NOT loud enough in a full band setting, even after a full service by a tech which included a brand new quad of 6L6-GC's being installed. I mean, it was audible, but it sounded like this through an 8x10 when playing shows whereas an SVT Classic, which is what I typically use now unless I want to break out the power amp/Sansamp setup and get all Jesus Lizard-esque, sounds like THIS. through the same 8x10. It was nice for recording bass in the studio though. Wish I had kept it.
Maybe you could run a V-4B's preamp out into your power amp through the 2x15, and just run the V-4B with your 4x12 or any old cab since it'll need a speaker load of some sort, and see how that works for you. I'm about to try a similar experiment with a VT-22, except that I won't be needing the extra cab for a load since it is a combo. Since they're basically the same amp, I'll keep you posted.
V-4B's can be had for well under $500 by the way. I've seen them go for $300 or so several times. Unless the value/cool factor has just increased astronomically in the last couple of years.
recommend me a new rig.

not astronomically, but somewhat.

sounds invisible. maybe i need to adjust the blend, but...it was nothing on the ts-50b/power amp.

14I haven't been lucky enough to acquire a TS-50B yet, and the Sansamp is the closest I've found in regards to that TS-50B sound that everyone (myself being guilty) pisses their fucking pants over. If it had a mid control I think it'd be perfect. As is, I like it, but it sounds too scooped at high volumes, and the only way to compensate is to drop the bass and treble, which sucks.

which bass are you using?
i've found the p-bass to work better with the mid-drop of a sansamp. jazz bass...ick.
recommend me a new rig.
16I am using a $150 MIM Fender Jazz right now and have been or years. It looks like shit....the body had been cracked by the previous owner, and the repair job, cosmetically, looks awful. But honestly, I swear by that thing....nothing else I've played in six years of playing bass has anything on the feel and sound it produces. I am planning on semi-retiring it for a while and switching to a Precision though, just for something new. I'm eager to see how a Precision fares with the Sansamp.
This thread was about helping you find a new rig though. Sorry. Have you ever played through a Peavey 400 Series? They are awesome:
My bandmate has one and I borrowed it for a while when my SVT crapped out on me. It sounds huge.

19They're definitely great. Highly recommended. If you ever find one on Ebay for under $200, snatch it. I got all kinds of great sounds out of it...including a decent TJL/TS-50B sound. But yeah, its not limited to that one tone. It replicated my SVT in tone and power to the point where neither I or my bandmates really missed the SVT when practicing.

I've seen a bunch of photos where he uses Acoustics...

But looking at this, it looks like an Acoustic and that Peavey.
I had a Peavey MarkIV and it was awesome loud but theres no "volume" knob... just post- and pre-gain. Such a bad idea.
A cheap Acosutic solid state perhaps?
