This place is fantastic.

That said two things: first, I don't think they get "rare" and "medium rare" right all that often, and tend to err on the side of doneness. As a result, some of the cuts you get just aren't as great a representation of that cut as they could be. This could easily be an issue specific to the Chicago location.

And second, a dinner here can kill any night of hard drinking that's scheduled to follow, since everyone gets so gorged with animal flesh.

But I still go here whenever the opportunity arises.

On the topic of Brazilian steakhouses (or at least what Americans think of as Brazilian steakhouses -- "churrascarias," I believe), I do think Churrascaria Plataforma in New York City is a notch better than Fogo de Chao in Chicago. And that's coming from someone who generally prefers food in Chicago to food in New York. Churrascaria Plataforma is heaven.

Even so, a meat palace such as Gibson's, Morton's etc., is probably going to be more expensive. Of course, the quaility at those places tend's to be higher, but you will leave one of those steakhouses well gorged as well.
