This is a thread for EA folks going to SXSW to make others aware of their show(s) and give each other tips regarding parties going on or must see sets from hot bands. I am very into that as for some reason the vast majority of my favorite bands are on tour other places and won’t be in Austin. So I am looking for recommendations. If you are looking to be snarky about the festival as a whole there is a more appropriate recent thread here regarding the overall relevancy of SXSW.

I’ll start. My record label, Crustacean Records, is having its first ever showcase at SXSW on Thursday March 13th beginning at 8 PM. We are at the Molotov Lounge and our line-up consists of Droids Attack (8 PM), The Gusto (9 PM), Screamin’ Cyn Cyn & the Pons(10 PM), Ouija Radio (11 PM), Birthday Suits (midnight) and Peelander-Z (1 AM). It also serves as the official release party for the new split 7" we are putting out with new songs from Peelander-Z and Birthday Suits.

We are a small, persistant Midwest label who has been putting out records since 1994. If we don’t draw a crowd and sell some liquor I doubt they will have us back next year so there are worst entities you could support or shows you could attend if you happen to be in Austin next Thursday. Also as expected with Wisconsin residents, we are hard drinking, friendly and relatively unpretencious so it should be a fun party.

Here is the bad ass silkscreen poster Sam Johnson of Firecracker Studios created for our show.

Germ War from another thread wrote:We're going to be down there playing sets at two unofficial shows, two hours apart. I'm going to see another unofficial party with Tight Phantomz/Those Peabodys/Reds & Blue + more later that night, and Fucked Up/No Age on a bridge at 2am. That sounds pretty alright to me.

What band are you in Germ War and when excatly are your shows?

Also do you have any more specifics regarding that late night Fucked Up show? I have wanted to see that band for a while and it would be really fun to see them really late at night drunk at one of those Austin bridge shows.

Fantastic. This has just made my day.

I am working sound for a band at some place called Red 7 on Friday at 4pm. Other than that I have nothing to do Tursday or Friday night. I will not have any sort of pass allowing me to get into other shows but I am going to to attempt to somehow see My Dad is Dead. I will definitely find a way to go to the convention center for flatstock.

I play in the monocles, and we will be playing a day show at 11am at Monkeywrench Books Saturday, March 15.

Here is a complete list of the promoter's events that week including ours...I recommend trying to catch the Matt Kurz 1...one of the only one man bands I know of that actually has "real" songs...dude plays bass with his foot for crying out loud!

I'm coming down. No showcase for sick Room this year. The bands weren't really into it so much. But, Triclops! is definitely playing somewhere and I'd be surprised if Che Arthur isn't playing at least a couple of times. And I know I am going to Lacy's party at Creekside on Friday, if they let me in because I might be banned for life over there.

I don't really think this counts as "real" SXSW but these days what does?

My girl friend is there now for the "Interactive Multimedia" portion of the hoopla.

To me... that is a farce... but she makes a lot more money than me so I'll pimp her out!

If any of you bitches need a web site with "Action" or "Graphics" or "Flash" or "What-the-fuck-ever"... She is great at it.

Give me money by giving her money!
