Rock Against Racism: Bowie and Clapton were total assholes?

I have zero knowledge of this chapter of British history. The words of Bowie and Clapton are pretty damn surprising, but I also take them with a grain of salt. Rock stars seem to be, generally speaking, ignorant, vain, and highly suggestible. I'd be willing to bet their views changed often and quickly.

I just saw the video for Bowie's song "China Girl" today. The part with the closeup of his face and him pulling his eye to make it all squinty and then laughing and smiling was a bit of a shocker. I didn't really know what to think, except that it was the 80's and political correctness was a very mid-90's phenomenon.

Also interesting in that video was the two different colored eyes. I didn't know he was doing that back then. Sorry for the tangent.

Clapton's always been a stupid-ass piece of shit, so...

I think we can safely say he's put that part of his life in the "I was a cunt" draw.

Could just as easily be in the "man, I sure was successful in generating a little controversy and attention for myself" bin, too. Seems like he made a point of working that angle quite a lot, especially back in the day.
