Fuzz control knob doesn't do that much, it is going to sound nuts no matter what. There is a touch of volume loss when you switch it on. I've read that it sounds better when you leave off the filter at the end of the circuit, but I have no idea what this means. Imagine what a corroded, half-burnt metal zone sounds like and this is it.

I actually built one of those today, I thought it was broken at first until I started fiddling around inside of it. I changed the pots to 250k (from the 50k they suggest) and changed the wires on the lugs of the fuzz pot. The fuzz is a bit more tunable now where as originally it was just ON and that was about it.

ben- if you catch this, I'd still like to see a preamp schematic if you got one?

Tech 21 XXL (the old one): You know, RAWR tone, lots of distortion, can get almost fuzzy in high-gain and fiddling with the gain knob. the volume of the pedal is ridiculous, i always use it at nine o clock, more is WAY TOO MUCH.

I just got this, and I agree its just an insane amount of overdrive, I love it, but I have no clue how I am going to use it...

You need to stop pretending that this is some kind of philosophical choice not to procreate and just admit you don't wear pants to the dentist.
