I can see why someone would think they'd be crap if they'd only heard GBV post-2000 (though I like pretty much all that stuff) or only seen one or two half-assed live performances (they were not always the greatest live band out there from what I've heard).

But no, they're one of the best bands of the 90's. I took my name here from one of the songs on Propeller. GBV probably have the biggest and most diverse back catalog of any band, and a large percentage of those songs really are great. definitely one of my all-time favorites. Robert Pollard's current streak of mediocre albums (From a Compound Eye was the last really good one) does nothing to change that. pretty obviously not crap.

Very good band. Not much for the post 2000 either, but maybe it is just burnout from all of the releases by Robert Pollard.

But any way, any day, a truly fun and interesting rock band. I dig.
