Perhaps you should start hanging out with givemenoughrope. The different continent thing would pose a bit of a problem, but I'm sure something could be arranged.

Some little twat came up and complimented you. He could have told you that you looked like his fucking dad or something.

GO4...Be happy!
They were awesome when I saw them in Bristol a few years ago. Why have the evening end on a bad note for something so insignificant?

It's an overreaction, but sometimes people need to learn the hard way how not to talk to people. You may have done him a favor.

Indeed. It's just as rude and fucked up to approach a complete stranger and say 'I like your look' than it is to walk up and say 'that shirt is stupid looking'
You have absolutely no business doing either. Your thoughts on this man's style of dress, as important as you think they are, mean absolutely nothing to anyone but you. Keep it to yourself. Nobody is biting their nails waiting to see what you think of their shirt.
What the fuck gives you the idea it's ok to do that? Or that he's not a lunatic and he won't stab you in the face for fucking with him?
The fact you are standing there with a chick and he did it is even worse. You are there trying to get your smoove on and some dude walks up and decides he's going to get into your life for a minute, not just that but he's made a judgement about your looks and is going to share it with you whether you like it or not. Right in front of the chick.
The fucking nerve, seriously.
Then he fucking comes BACK and tries to butt in some more. Right after he told him to fuck off!! What on Earth is this kid thinking? People get their head stomped on for much, much less.
'I want you to get away from me and am not interested in what you are saying'
'But wait, why not? How dare you tell me to leave you alone. You have no right. Hold on a second, why don;t you care what I say? I am talking to you, buddy...I complimented your style why aren't you thanking me?'

This sounds pretty accurate but I think it was genuinely because he thought that Barry thought he was being sarcastic. I can understand thinking his reaction was disproportionate because it was. He went to apologise because he assumed only sarcasm could illicit this response. Shock can make you do ridiculous things.

Was the kid a douchebag? Almost certainly.
Did Barry over-react though? I think so.

Again - thank you. This was precisely what was going through my mind in the split seconds before I retaliated.

But, no - I was not trying to 'get my smooth on'.

I said 'smoove' not 'smooth' there's a world of difference.

WHAT?

Fucking hell people, look at yourselves!

No wonder people don't intervene when someone is being decapitated on a god damn bus right in front of them. Fuck.

"People need to learn the hard way not to talk to people?"
Mr Midgett, say it ain't so! Tell me you are joking, please.

This world is way worse off than I had thought, and I am a damn pessimist!

Oh, i agree totally with both these sentiments, just to clarify. I still say Barry should have subtly mocked the kid. Ridicule is far more emotionally devastating than hostility.

Nina, people need to mind their own fucking business. Plain and simple.
I would not have stopped that dude from cutting the Juggalo's head off either. That's between the crazy Indian and the Juggalo.
Maybe he fucked the Indian's wife, how do I know?

Wait, when did it come out that the bus decapitation victim was a juggalo? Who forgot to tell me about this?

That's the thing, I think people should be able to just walk up to someone and not be scared. Engage in communication and if the person being engaged does not want to, then just ignore or diffuse without hostility or anger. "stupid things" is a very relative term, so that does not really work.

People should not be afraid of each other.

Hipster kids get under my skin as well, but I just ignore them, plus without being too much of a dick (unless im wasted),with body language and reaction I feed them a bunch of shit they dont understand, or acting homosexual towards them usually makes them leave.
