I hate piccolo snares.However, depth is not the sole (or perhaps even primary) determining factor of a drum's pitch. Materials make a huge difference.Heavier drums with denser materials "ping" and "crack" more, while thinner materials have a wallop. I like a balance between the two- high tension on a two-ply head on a deep, aluminum drum.The Ludwig Supraphonic LM-402 is the most flexible drum I own. I recommend it if you're are only going to play one drum.neither prong/false dichotomy/etx etx....
