Preferably with regular 1/4" speaker outs instead of speakon bullshits.I was looking for something like that to pair with the 1978. Cheapest option that sounds decent. I keep considering just getting a used GK MB800 (or MB500), some rack ears, and plugging into the effects return.Aren't some of the modern speakon jacks dual use speakon or 1/4"?Tommy, if youre going to spend $600 on a used GK MB800, I would suggest a Crown XLS xxx2. They are also Class D and follow the ICE Power style of PWM. 2502 being the highest wattage, the one I use with an 8x10 cabinet. You might not need all that power but its nice to have it on tap. Its $600 new, 2ru and very light compared to a standard solid state PA head of that stature.https://3e7777c294b9bcaa5486-bc95634e60 ... iginal.pdfIts got DSP which allows you to high pass and low pass your channels. If youre using 2 cabs, you can get creative with sending subs to one and everything else to the other. It also runs dual mono from a single input and takes 1/4 jacks. Im not certain about the outputs being dual-purpose. The manual mentions 1/4" in the description but I have always just used a speakon cable.Manual says:4-Pole Speakon ® Output Connectors: Two - 1/4 inch input connectors accept 2-pole or4-pole Speakon connectors. The Channel 1connector is wired for both channels so it can beused for BRIDGE mode wiring or stereo wiring oftwo speakers to a single Speakon.I'll check it out. I'd honestly be after the MB500 instead of the 800 (I don't need that much wattage) and I'm not into biamping at all. Full range into 1 or 2 Mesa 15" with an EV. I *should* be able to find an MB500 used for $350 if I look hard. What's an appropriate Crown that'll do 8 ohms x1, 8 ohms x 2, or 4 ohms x 1? What I don't like about the Crown is relying on a cable to bridge it. I hate having special cables because I lose them.check out the manual of the crown xli 1500. they have a switch for stereo/bridge/parallel on the back. no additional cable needed (as I understand it) they also just lowered the prices. https://www.crownaudio.com/en/products/xli-1500If your cable has a banana plug connector you can just use the two hot terminals. If you want to use a speakon cable you need the four pole variety wired +1/+2 at the amp end and +1/-1 at the speaker end. This is pretty much how all power amps work these days.

But I'm a guitar guy with 1/4" cables for everything. Thus, bass amp. Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I will cable up as needed.

The 800RB is my lightweight portable amp when I don't want to haul out the SVT-II.It's 23 lbs.A Crown XLi is 25 lbs.Wait, the 800RB is only 23 lbs? Having said that, I'm currently using my 1978 with an EDEN WT-400 which is 13 lbs and if I'm removing a built-in preamp from it (the effect return isn't after the EQ - thus seeking power amp), would like the rig to the get LIGHTER...

That rig looks awesome and Im glad you are enjoying the preamp!I may have forgotten to swap out your LED's. Forgive me as I am colorblind but I think the ones you have are green, the color they came with as shipped from Mouser. I meant to swap those out for white to signify and distinguish the 2nd batch but I may have forgotten to! If you prefer any particular color besides the ones you have, just let me know and I can mail some out. I have all the primary colors and they are super easy to swap out. If its no biggie for you then cool! But I just wanted to extend the offer If anything, yours is now aesthetically unique Just let me know! And again, apologies!Also- do as you like but I would suggest turning the amplifier all the way up and turning the preamp down. This will ensure the highest possible headroom for the low end and will result in the least possibility for farting and speaker damage.

I set the power amp to ten. somehow I had a hard time to then use the preamp s master out to control the volume. up to 2 o clock not much happened loudness wise and then it s a very short way form ok volume to blowing your guts out. I read on a bass player forum that those crown power amps need a very hot input to actually sound good. we also practice at pretty low volume, so I just turned the amp down. will look into that next time I m there.the green LEDs match the Korg green perfectly!band mates keep telling me how great the new bass sound is. I love how the preamp starts to break up the higher notes while still having the full round bass sound.
