Nagging feeling that it’s a little irresponsible.
Glad to hear Bremen is requiring proof of vax. Neither of my bands are comfortable playing out yet, but it's good to know that almost every one of the venues in town we're able to play at is playing ball with this.

Man, I am really getting itchy about playing an actual show in front of people again, though. At least I know that at any of the shows we play, social distancing with our crowd won't be an issue. Maybe once kids can be vaccinated...

Yeah kudos to Bremen for doing the right thing. I take it X-Ray is on the same page? We did a no audience recorded show there back in March and they were great, precaution wise.

Is Michael still in Hi-Fi? Tell him I say “hi.”

Yeah, Michael's still solidly in the gang! And yeah, X-Ray is doing proof of vax or a negative test. One of the dudes there was saying he ran the door for their Sad Boy Saturday dj night and he was disturbed by the sheer number of negative tests he got in lieu of vax cards. Yeesh...

The first kind-of show I went to was a Snapped Ankles in-store at Rough Trade East back in the summer, which at the start felt fine - front of store fully open, very high ceilings etc - but less so when it filled up. The band walked onstage with a jokey "double jabs down the front, single jabs in the middle, no jabs as far back as possible"

I saw Black Country New Road at the Electric Ballroom a couple of weeks back. The venue felt as full as it would have been pre-COVID. Only a couple of people wearing masks, but you had to prove vaccinated status to get in. It's still weird being in a crowd.

I played an indoor show with Math Patrol at Spiderhouse in Austin, TX, on July 10. I was feeling so optimistic at that time, but obviously Delta was already on the uptick and it soon enough got really severe here with zero-to-minimal ICU beds available for a couple months. No other indoor shows on the radar until my under-12 daughters are vaxxed. I'm hoping that happens soon enough to do the annual Karaoke Underground SAD SONGS ONLY show in December, but I'm not booking anything until their vaccine appointments are on the schedule.

Saw Propaghandhi on Friday. The played three hometown shows this weekend but cancelled their other tour dates in western Canada until next next year. Couple friends from Saskatoon came for the show.

Proof of vaccination and masks were required, and the venue didn't get its liquor license approved so there was no booze. Bad for fans and the venue ($) but it meant no one was pulling on beverages and everyone stayed masked the whole time. Big high-ceiling black box room with new ventilation system. Didn't feel too sketchy, actually.

Show was incredible. Tight and ferocious and fun. Band had to kick out a guy for groping women in the pit mid-set. Todd: "See ya, dickweed." Chris: "One less shithead in the crowd. Now let's try to regain the vibe." The vibe was regained.

Bob Mould last week - masked w/ vax or negative test proof to enter. Everyone was compliant, the band was great and he sounds as good as he did 25 years ago to me.

Side note: People whose lives and livelihood were interrupted by covid seem to be more polite or appreciative of the ability to work again. Tattoo folks, bar owners, club owners, the people who book shows for a living….just kind of a different vibe than I remember.

Except valet guys. Apologies if that’s what you do for your scratch, but they’re universally dicks. They’ve gone mad with their moderate amount of power.
