It's the "Gear you have saved" thread!

Show me the basket cases you brought back to life! Amps, guitars, drums, '66 Volvo delivery truck!

You can preview something I did a while ago in this thread:

But that's just drums! Show us what you fixed!

I think probably 80% of my posts on this board involve me rescuing gear, in some fashion.

Off the top of my head...

I had a Wurli 206a rebuild thread about 12 years ago on the old forum. Still have it.
Hammond M3 that looked like it had spent 40 years in a wet barn. Still have it.
A few drum kits, including a Walberg & Auge that belongs to my buddy Josh and the Fibes/Premier kit frankenstein kit I currently own.
A white Ampeg V4 a few years ago. Sold it.
An 810 SVT cabinet. Still have it.
Too many GK 800RBs to count (one on the bench right now!). Had a really great one that I used for years before selling to FM Piccoman.
That student-model Rhodes I completely redid then almost sold when I moved to Montana, until you guys talked me out of it. Still have it.
A Farfisa compact. Still have it.
Hiwatt Custom 20 head that I made a new walnut enclosure for. Still have it.
A very early Traynor YBA-1A that I regret selling.
Too many other amps to remember. Easily over 100 or so, based on my Reverb sales history.
4 fixer-upper houses in 3 different states
1984 BMW R80 motorcycle. Still have it.
1921 Dort Model 17 touring car. My kids will have to fight over it when I'm gone.

OK well this is clearly the place - I found a cheap 80s MIJ Jaguar (listed as 90s but the serial and neckplate say '85-'87) which had what looked like a bit of airbrush art on the body. I figured I could buff it off.
Image
Flash forward a few weeks and it arrived, I took it apart straight away to restore it - figured it would take an hour or two. Neck pickup was an AVRI replacement which I guessed from the beveled polepieces.

Wasn't prepared for the bridge pickup to look so gross and grungy:

but all is forgiven:

(that'd be 12-01-64 in pencil)

Turned my attention to the airbrush art - a little sanding took me thru the grey to the red, and I tried a couple of solvents since the MIJ finishes are bomb-proof. To my horror the red dissolved and put me through to silver - figured I had ruined it a bit.
Some sleuth work where the cavities had been masked revealed that this was not the whole story. In fact the refinisher had done a primer coat, then re-done the candy apple red finish (to a lesser standard than the original CAR finish) and then done the other art on top. At that point I realised I had seven layers to strip off. Here's a montage to save you the six hours it took me:
Image
Finishing up with some wetsanding (800/1200/2000) gave it the matte finish at bottom right.

Then - medium cutting compound and fine compound with a wool pad on my hand buffer. When I wiped off the residue I couldn't believe how good it looked.

Currently too tired to rewire a Jag so I'll leave you with this test-fit:

holy moly man you killed it!

Speaking of killed, here's my Greco LP I ripped the neck off of, lit on fire and then brought back to life
viewtopic.php?f=25&t=69851&hilit=veneer&start=20

I have 5-6 Garnet amps that I bought broken and saved. Never selling.
I too sold an old but needing-repaid Traynor YBA-1 that shocked the hell out of me so I just never was getting around to fixing. I regret getting rid of that and NOT saving it.
Zvex box of rock that was borked and just needed a pot replaced.

Is there a plan for this amp? Can speakon outputs be put on one of these things?
It's for sale!: viewtopic.php?p=804515#p804515

I could put a speakon in there, no problem. That lucite top cover might not be terribly road-worthy though, if this is for who I think it's for. I'd have to find a piece of steel or aluminum to make a new cover.

One last update, my parts bin included most of the chrome parts of a Jag, and an AVRI bridge pickup without a cover or a claw. So I've put the 64 to one side out of nervousness, and installed the AVRI with a Strat cover while the proper parts arrive.
It's pretty sensational and came up as well as I could have hoped.

The last pic is probably closest to its colour in real life.
