Thanks Ben! It may have been you who originally brought up the idea of wiring hums in parallel eons ago so I’ll definitely keep that in mind if whatever pickups I get don’t feel bright enough for my taste.

Oh, and for the record, here’s a pic of my ASAT Special (next to a Bacchus Mustang copy). I put a Tone-Guard aluminum pickguard on the G&L and it SHITS TRAINS.

How do YOU use an expander?

My LA-22 has one and I never use it except by accident. I was reading that they are useful to cut down on room noise and now I feel like my whole weekend is spoken for. Anything I can do to avoid automation - I truly hate the sloggy computer shit and spending a few minutes dialing it in and then printing it sounds like a real time saver if its as easy as it sounds.

I rarely want to cut down on room sounds, but I have had tracks here and there where it bugged the shit out of me.

I use one live sometimes if I have a space that it can function well in. A lot of times it's smaller/medium spaces where there's too many loud guitars to even bother.

I use them mostly as gates that are more natural-sounding and don't chop.

In recording, it's rare that I'm trying to eke out MORE dynamic range. I think I played with this on a snare part once to make the ghost notes a little more ghostly but my drumming was too inconsistent for it to work properly. I generally would rather do the slog and chop/fade in/out stuff like toms or other instruments that are only occasionally being used.

Made me laugh.

Is the hippie sandwich a custom job? A bandmate had one that looked just like it, I remember it sounding thick AF.

Also the G&L and the Mustang pictured above both look delicious.

I think it’s a Memphis? I did some Google Image searches and it’s most likely an MG-300. They seem to use a wide range of woods but the layering seems to be consistent. I used to have an old bandmate’s Memphis P-Bass copy which was pretty good. Sold it back to him before I moved.

Since we’re likely to go full 70s on this, Brass Nut y/n? Will my guitar tech cold-cock me for it?

Ha, Memphis, nice. First guitar I ever played was my little brother's Memphis Les Paul copy.

I don't have an opinion on brass nuts, but I just fixed up a friend's '87 Strat, which has a roller nut on it...I have one on my '96 Strat as well, and I think those things are for the birds. Supposedly they help with tuning stability but....they don't. They look dumb and I dunno if they do anything good for tone either. This concludes my entirely off-topic rant.

Anyone have any success restringing a guitar to Nashville tuning? We’re going to be recording soon and I may not be able to locally source an electric 12-string for a couple songs, but I have a spare guitar or two I could string up Nashville-style. Only problem is that the last time I tried, the .9 for the G string snapped twice. I don’t know if it was because the tension was too much or if the locking tuner ran out of slack and it fell out of the tuner.

OK I have had a Tronographic Rusty Box for several years. It is the 9V version. I got it second hand, w/o the PSU because I thought, in the world of online music retail and amazon, it wasn’t going to be a big deal to find one. But it has been a big deal. The regular One-Spot/BOSS style jack does not fit. I have searched online and in real life to find a replacement 9V plug. Tronographic sells replacement PSUs for the original 30V but not the 9V.

My question is, are the 9V Rusty Boxes supposed to take the boss-style power? Was this thing maybe modded by the original owner for some reason? Is there anywhere in the world I could find the correct PSU?

I actually don’t have a need for it anymore b/c I never really played bass anyway, but I feel like I should find the right plug before I sell it to some other jackass. I think I may have even asked this on the old board IDK.

Should just be any standard 9v power supply.

It’s one of the ones that looks like this right?

Contact Tronographic directly and ask them. I know they had an issue with some power jacks from a supplier, but dont know if any got out into the wild. Its possible this is related, but also possible that someone mucked with the old one somehow.
