Legal mess? Like the courts could be involved? Or procedural mess within the party?Frankie99 wrote: Mon Jul 22, 2024 10:50 am The thing about the warnings from AOC that resonated with me, and she was still making them Friday night, is that the Dems as she knew it were not prepared for the legal mess that would ensue from changing candidates. My experience with dems says "yep. that tracks."
Re: Politics
1832Biden has done the right thing. He and his legacy will be regarded more favorably now.
And I do believe Harris is a better candidate than Trump. Aside from whatever issues are at stake, in general, she will exercise much more sound judgment and rise to the occasion, build a better coalition on the global stage. America’s better off with a former prosecutor at the helm than a felon who’s never said one bad thing about Putin. (Right-wingers who say Trump “can’t be bought” need look no farther than Russia.)

Re: Politics
1833That is a sincerely encouraging thought. I don’t have much faith in what she would do as president, but it is always good for young women of color to have representation and to be encouraged to participate in democracy. Maybe enough young people will come out and vote that. they will counteract the dumdum swing voters who will stay home or swing to Donny.jfv wrote: Sun Jul 21, 2024 8:37 pm Not sure about the overall impact of having Harris as the nominee instead of Biden, but I can tell you that my 18-year-old daughter and all her 18-year-old friends are (at least as of this moment) very excited to vote for Harris. They were previously considering either voting for a third-party or sitting out the election.
I haven’t thought about him in a while, goddamn I hate that fuckin’ shrivpenningtron wrote: Mon Jul 22, 2024 11:06 amOn another note, I love how Joe Manchin thinks anyone gives a flying fuck about his chances or what he thinks about anything period. Fuck off and go away.
Re: Politics
1834the truth is no one is excited about zero delegate Kamala, I'll be sitting this one out, its gonna be a blow out anyways...
Re: Politics
1835In whose favor? You think Trump will run away with it?
Fine if people want to have a cynical take on things, especially politics at this level.
But I feel a lot more enthusiastic about this race today than I did before the announcement.
Lefties will temper their enthusiasm accordingly, if they have any at all, I guess. But I think there's something real at stake and this isn't "over."
Re: Politics
1836She got $50 million in donations overnight. Like someone said earlier there's no way she'd be on top of the ticket any other way, but shit's so weird now it kind of makes sense.
Re: Politics
1837I don't think either party/candidate should be calling this ahead of time.

Re: Politics
1839Well, Trump was the favorite before this....I think many of us pessimists would guess that he'll continue to hold that advantage against a newcomer despite the initial enthusiasm for jettisoning the old fart. Good luck with whatever it is you're hoping will happen. I'm guessing it will be a long, long race to the bottom.
Re: Politics
1840I've seen zero enthusiasm for her online or irl, as I said mayor pete got more delegates than her in the primaries. I just don't see it happening, this is the only space I've seen anyone talking about her at all tbhDaveA wrote: Mon Jul 22, 2024 2:25 pmIn whose favor? You think Trump will run away with it?
